Don’t Hold On to the Seed

Ecclesiastes 11:4-5

“Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap. As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.”

Have you ever felt God stir a vision in your heart, only to find yourself hesitating? Waiting for the perfect time, the right resources, or the ideal circumstances? Solomon understood this human tendency. He observed that the farmer who constantly watches the wind and studies the clouds, seeking perfect planting conditions, will never sow anything.

The farmer who clutches the seed in his hand will never see a harvest.

When God gives you a vision—whether it’s starting a ministry, reaching out to a neighbor, beginning a new prayer initiative, or stepping into unfamiliar territory—He’s entrusting you with seed, not to hoard, but to sow. The temptation is to wait: What if I fail? What if the timing isn’t right? What if I don’t have enough?

But here’s the profound truth of verse 5: Just as we don’t understand how life forms in the womb or how the wind moves, we cannot fully comprehend how God works. And we don’t need to. Our call isn’t to understand everything—it’s to trust the One who does.

Sowing seeds requires:

  • Releasing control – The seed must leave your hand
  • Accepting risk – Farming is never without uncertainty
  • Trusting God’s sovereignty – He controls what we cannot see
  • Acting despite imperfect conditions – There’s never a “perfect” time

The harvest doesn’t belong to those who wait for perfect conditions. It belongs to those who trust God enough to open their hands and let the seed fall into the soil.

What seed is God asking you to sow today? What vision has He stirred in your spirit that you’re still clutching tightly? Don’t let fear of the unknown keep you from the fruitfulness God has planned.

Trust Him. Take the step. Sow the seed.

And expect the harvest—not because you’ve earned it, but because God is faithful.

Prayer: Lord, give me courage to release the seeds of vision You’ve placed in my heart. Help me trust You with the outcomes I cannot see or control. I choose faith over fear, action over analysis. Let my life bear fruit for Your glory. Amen.
